United Way NCA - Serving dinnerGive an hour. Give a Saturday. Give your best. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. Whether it's reading to children, or leading financial literacy classes for hard-working families, or delivering meals to homebound seniors, there are hundreds of volunteer options available every day.

Each day, ordinary people are accomplishing extraordinary things by volunteering. You don't have to have superhuman talents to get involved in your community. We all have special talents, things we can do to help. Put your special skills to work for our community. See below for a sample of our featured volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups and families.

Volunteer for United Way NCA

If it weren't for our many outstanding volunteers, the work we do would not be possible. We are always looking for new people to volunteer their time and talents. Volunteer opportunities include assisting with bulk mailings, clerical work and reviewing grant applications.

Volunteer for a United Way NCA Member Nonprofit Organization

United Way NCA is your source for connecting to volunteer projects in the greater Washington area. We can help you find opportunities at local member nonprofit organizations that match your skills, interests and schedule.

Participate in a Days of Caring Opportunity

United Way NCA's Day of Caring is a special service project that builds partnerships between United Way NCA, member nonprofits, community volunteers, and employees from area workplaces. Each year, members of United Way's network of member nonprofits and other participating organizations design hands-on projects for corporate volunteers. By participating, volunteers gain a deeper understanding of our region's social service community and the work that United Way NCA and local nonprofit profits do every day of the year. To better balance the community needs with workplace availability, a custom Day of Caring volunteer opportunity can be planned for your organization any day of the year.

Participate in a Day of Action

United Way's Day of Action takes place in June. This event is an annual day of volunteerism mobilizing hundreds of local volunteers to complete community service projects throughout the Washington metropolitan region.

Our volunteers are individuals and groups from local companies, organizations and the community.  All ages, including youth and adults, are welcome to participate as volunteers in a Day of Action.

Provide Professional Skills

There are many ways you can lend a hand. It can be as simple as helping to serve food or visiting an elder care facility. But it can also be putting your professional skills to work by offering pro-bono services to one of our member nonprofit organizations. By donating your professional skills- legal, financial, graphic design, marketing, or clinical services - you can have a profound impact on the success of United Way NCA's mission to advance the common good in the national capital region.

Volunteer Resources
